Google Calendar Synchronisation
-
-
-
This is a quick win easy-to-install solution to give your staff and students a head-start this academic year by automatically synchronising the SIMS timetable into their Google Calendar. If your school uses Google, you can allow your staff and students to fully utilise the power of the electronic calendar to help organise themselves, for example, adding equipment to remember for the lesson, making notes from the lesson to review later, or even adding Google Documents for them to work on. If your school doesn’t have an electronic homework system and students currently write this down in a planner, why not allow them to mark homework against the lesson for which is it due? If you are specifically looking for a homework system, please have a look at our feature rich Homework solution.
Many staff will copy their calendar manually into Google and this takes a great deal of time needing updating over the school year, and this would be eliminated by using Connect Sync giving them time back for teaching as well as helping other staff to be more organised.

Synchronise SIMS Groups Into Google Apps for Education
-
-
-
Many schools create a limited set of groups in Google Apps, but are unable to take full advantage of the benefits groups provide due to the time consuming task of keeping them up-to-date.
A school with 1400 students will have over 1000 different classes, in addition to registration groups, year groups and houses. Creating these groups manually and maintaining them isn't practical.
Connect can create and maintain the groups you choose automatically based on the information found in SIMS. Group settings can be changed for the different collections of groups, or individual groups if required using a system of inheritance.
If you would like to discuss how Connect can benefit your school, please contact us.

Single Sign On

In addition to synchronising groups into Google, it is possible for users to single sign-on using their Google account cutting the need to remember another username and password. Alternatively it is also possible to single sign-on using Microsoft's Active Directory.

Marc Ginnaw, the Sales and Operations Director, approached School Apps when he was the IT Manager at The Angmering School, asking for a Google synchronisation solution as he was frustrated with the time his team and teachers were spending making Google Groups manually, he was also concerned that information was often out-of-date. Marc Spec'd out his requirements and School Apps agreed to create the solution and a short time later a fully functioning system for synchronising SIMS with Google was working at his school.
